Jeju sends dialysis machines, citrus saplings to North Korea

The Jeju provincial government announced it has sent dialysis machines, tangerine saplings and other supplies worth 160 million won to North Korea, with the items arriving in Nampho on May 4.

The items were shipped from Incheon on April 1 via Dalian in China and reached North Korea’s western port of Nampho on May 4. They included medical equipment, forestry pesticide and Hallabong saplings. The project began after Governor Oh Young-hun discussed cooperation with Unification Minister Chung Dong-young last November. In February a provincial delegation agreed with North Korean officials on phased projects starting with tangerines, medical welfare and pest control. The Unification Ministry approved the transfer. Spokesperson Yoon Min-ho said a provincial government is treated as a legal entity rather than a state authority under the Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Act.
