Jeonbuk captain Park Jin-seob heads to China's Zhejiang FC

Park Jin-seob, who captained Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors to a domestic double in 2025, is joining Zhejiang FC in the Chinese Super League. The 30-year-old versatile defender thanked the club and fans while reflecting on his four seasons there.

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors announced the departure of captain Park Jin-seob, who guided the team to the K League 1 title and Korea Cup victory for a domestic double in 2025. The 30-year-old had been with the club from 2022 to 2025, serving as a versatile defender capable of midfield roles.

After narrowly escaping relegation in 2024, Jeonbuk built the league's tightest defense in 2025 under Park's leadership, conceding just 32 goals in 38 matches. Coach Gus Poyet frequently praised the veteran's on- and off-field guidance. Park finished as runner-up in the K League 1 MVP voting in November and won the Korea Cup MVP award in December.

Park recently requested a move abroad to test himself further, and Jeonbuk approved it in recognition of his four-season contributions. He described playing for his hometown club in Jeonju as a childhood dream and called his time there "the time of my life." "I will always remember the love and support from our fans," he said. "I may be leaving, but I will always root for Jeonbuk from the bottom of my heart."

The transfer forms part of Jeonbuk's extensive offseason changes. Poyet left after one season and was replaced by Chung Jung-yong, previously with Gimcheon Sangmu FC and the under-20 national team. Key players like defender Hong Jeong-ho and midfielder Song Min-kyu are also exiting, while Kwon Chang-hoon joined Jeju SK FC on the same day.

Following last month's wave of coaching changes among K League strugglers, Gwangju FC's new head coach Lee Jung-kyu held his introductory press conference on January 4 at Gwangju World Cup Stadium. The 43-year-old aims to propel the club back to K League 1's Final A group—and ideally the top flight—in 2026, building on established systems while fixing defensive frailties after two lower-tier seasons.

South Korea's national baseball team will play exhibition games against Japan in Tokyo ahead of the 2026 World Baseball Classic. The squad of young KBO stars faces the world champion for valuable experience. Manager Ryu Ji-hyun approaches the matches seriously, aiming for victories.

Former Paris Saint-Germain left-back Layvin Kurzawa has signed a six-month loan deal with Persib Bandung. The 33-year-old will be officially unveiled on Sunday, January 25, 2026, following the team's match against PSBS Biak at Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium. His arrival is seen as a major surprise given his free-agent status.

Federico Barba, Persib Bandung's Italian defender, is reportedly set to leave for Europe due to family reasons, creating a gap in the backline ahead of the match against Persija Jakarta. Coach Bojan Hodak insists Barba remains under contract, while management eyes three replacement candidates. The mid-season transfer window opens on January 10, 2026.
