Production is underway in Los Angeles on Doe, an independent film marking rapper and actor Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi's first time directing a feature. Mescudi wrote the script and leads the cast, joined by Mark Webber, Leah McNamara, Brandon Scott, and Brandon Perea. The story centers on a homeless man in Hollywood whose day brings encounters that draw him into and out of his addictive compulsions, underscored by original songs from Mescudi. He executive produces with Karina Manashil through their Mad Solar banner, with Webber, Anthony Baldino, and Ryan Lacen also producing, as first reported by Deadline in an exclusive. “Directing for me has been the ultimate dream of mine since I was a little boy,” Mescudi told Deadline. “I’ve always been a fan of film, and I’ve been sharpening my sword for years waiting for this very moment. It’s truly been the best experience filming this movie and I can’t wait for the world to see a true work of passion and love, made with friends.” Mescudi, a Grammy-winning musician fresh off his eleventh studio album Free, has directed music videos and co-created the Emmy-winning Netflix special Entergalactic. His acting credits include Ti West’s horror films X, Pearl, and MaXXXine, as well as Don’t Look Up and indie dramas like Meadowland and James White.
