The custody of a man arrested after a knife attack in Paris on Monday was lifted on Tuesday for psychiatric reasons. The suspect, already under psychiatric care, was taken to the police prefecture’s psychiatric infirmary. Three women were injured, two of them seriously.
The attack occurred on Monday morning at Porte de Clichy in the 17th arrondissement. The man injured three women with a knife. Two were seriously wounded, and their condition has now stabilized. The third victim, eight months pregnant, was hospitalized with no vital prognosis engaged.
The suspect was subdued by an off-duty police prefecture officer immediately after the incident. He was making incoherent statements at the time of his arrest. Investigations established that he was already under psychiatric follow-up but was previously unknown to police and judicial authorities.
On Tuesday, following a behavioral examination, the Paris prosecutor’s office stated that his health condition was incompatible with custody. He was taken to the psychiatric infirmary of the police prefecture.
