Na Hong-jin's Hope falls short of Palme d'Or at Cannes

Director Na Hong-jin's film Hope did not win the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival on May 23. The genre-bending work remained one of the most talked-about entries in this year's competition.

The film is set in a remote harbor village near the Korean Demilitarized Zone. It follows a police chief and a rookie officer confronting a mysterious being.

The cast includes Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Jung Ho-yeon alongside Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and Taylor Russell. Director Na said, “I wanted to explore how small incidents can grow into something uncontrollable.”

Hope is scheduled for a summer release in Korea.
