Former Minister Nadiem Makarim read his defense plea at the Jakarta Central Corruption Court on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. He asserted that all elements of the corruption charges had been disproven and requested a full acquittal.
Nadiem stated that his only hope was a pure acquittal with no other options. He assessed that all four elements of corruption, including state losses and malicious intent, were unproven in the trial.
In his plea, Nadiem claimed the Chromebook program saved the state Rp3.9 trillion by choosing a free operating system. He also said he never signed any procurement documents.
Prosecutors demanded a total prison sentence of 27 years and 6 months plus restitution of Rp5.67 trillion. Nadiem expressed disappointment as the demand was three times the state loss calculated by BPKP.
Legal observer Fajar Trio argued that the savings claim was irrelevant because the charges focused on alleged hardware price mark-ups.
