New collaboration against phone fraud launched

The Swedish Police Authority and the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority are launching a collaboration to stop phone fraud. Operators will block calls and SMS based on traffic patterns.

The Swedish Police Authority and the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority are working on the new collaboration at the government's request. It is based on new legislation that gives operators responsibility to intervene against fraudulent traffic.

Lena Nyberg, Director General at PTS, says the collaboration strengthens user protection and makes it harder for criminals. Mats Berggren at the Police National Operations Department stresses that success means SMS or calls never reach the target.

Operators will particularly monitor patterns where numbers contact many recipients at once. The initiative was presented on 27 June 2026.
