New threat shuts Tacloban school hit by mass shooting

Classes at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City were suspended on July 14 after threatening messages circulated on social media.

School officials reported the threats to police on July 13. The messages, sent via Facebook Messenger, warned of an attack the next day and mentioned targeting Grade 7 and Grade 8 students. One message stated there would be about 10 people involved.

The account behind the messages claimed to be a friend of Nash, the 14-year-old student accused in the June 22 shooting at the same school. Nash is in the custody of a Department of Social Welfare and Development facility.

Tacloban City Police, working with the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit-8, are tracing the account. No suspect has been identified. Heightened security measures were put in place around the campus as a precaution.

The suspension follows the resumption of classes on July 6 after the June 22 incident that killed three students and injured 20 others.
