Niels Vink captured his fourth consecutive Wimbledon quad wheelchair singles crown on Sunday. The Dutch top seed defeated compatriot Sam Schroder in the final and honored his late coach during the celebration.
Vink kissed the grass and pointed to the sky after the victory. He said the moment carried special meaning because it was his first Wimbledon appearance since former coach Hans-Jürgen Striek died last September following a brain tumor diagnosis.
Striek remained Vink’s coach through major successes in 2024 and 2025, including two Olympic gold medals. Current coach Alex Gaspa sat beside the empty seat that Vink said he felt was occupied during the final.
Vink also secured the doubles title with Guy Sasson. The win completed a strong season that already included singles and doubles crowns at the Australian Open and French Open.
