Malacañang confirmed the P85 minimum wage increase in Metro Manila will proceed despite private sector calls for suspension.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said on July 21 that there is no order to suspend the first P60 tranche set to begin on July 25. This will raise the daily minimum wage to P755 for non-agriculture workers and P718 for agriculture and small establishments.
The remaining P25 will take effect on Jan. 20, 2027, bringing the totals to P780 and P743 respectively. The Palace has not received any formal request from private sector groups.
The Foundation for Economic Freedom called for suspension over possible effects on inflation and prices. Meanwhile, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is assessing the inflationary impact of this record hike.
