Novak Djokovic withdraws from Canadian Open

Novak Djokovic has pulled out of the Canadian Open in Montreal. The withdrawal comes ahead of the Masters 1000 event scheduled to start August 2.

The 39-year-old Serb withdrew on July 24 citing workload management. He had been expected to return to the tournament for the first time since 2018 but chose to rest before the US Open.

Jannik Sinner also withdrew from the event. Tournament director Valérie Tétreault expressed disappointment in an official statement.

“We are obviously very disappointed that Jannik and Novak won’t be joining us in Montréal this year,” Tétreault said. “We respect their decisions and understand that, with such a demanding schedule, players’ health must remain the priority.”

Djokovic had earlier commented at the 2026 Fanatics Fest on facing younger players. “I want to kick their a** every day of the week,” he said while noting stylistic contrasts with Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner.
