ONLF affirms commitment to bolster development gains in Somali Region

Ogaden National Liberation Front deputy chairman Ahmed Yasin said the group is ready to contribute to strengthening development achievements recorded in the Somali Region.

Addis Ababa, June 4, 2018 (FMC). Ahmed Yasin recalled that before the change, due to the exclusionary political system, ONLF had been engaged in armed struggle. Following the change that created a conducive political environment, the group abandoned armed struggle and is now pursuing peaceful political struggle, he said.

While noting that differences in ideas and policies remain, he stressed that the group has no different position on national sovereignty, national interest, and citizens' peace and security. The party appreciates the sustainable peace and tangible development works that have come to the Somali Region in the years of the change, he added.

ONLF has demonstrated strong political participation in the region by taking part in the 7th general election, he said. He noted the existence of individuals operating under the party's name in alliance with armed forces to accept foreign missions for destruction, but stated there is no place for such individuals within ONLF.
