Oromia political parties council holds 14th regular meeting

The Joint Council of Political Parties in Oromia Region held its 14th regular meeting in Addis Ababa on the 7th general election process. The council emphasized the significant role of political parties in building democracy.

During the meeting held on May 12, 2018, the council noted that the election process has so far been conducted in a free, fair, and democratic manner. The parties confirmed they are expanding their structures at regional, zonal, and woreda levels to fulfill their role effectively.

The regional government and the ruling party are providing the necessary budget, office space, logistics, and other support to ensure the council's success and broaden the democratic space. The parties stated they have been registering candidates without external influence and organizing members under equal and favorable conditions.

Deputy chairperson and Prosperity Party representative Ato Moges Ide said the member parties are working through both competition and cooperation to complete the process peacefully.
