عقد المجلس المشترك للأحزاب السياسية في إقليم أوروميا اجتماعه الدوري الرابع عشر في أديس أبابا لمناقشة عملية الانتخابات العامة السابعة. وأكد المجلس على الدور المحوري للأحزاب السياسية في بناء الديمقراطية.

خلال الاجتماع الذي عُقد في 12 مايو 2018، أشار المجلس إلى أن العملية الانتخابية جرت حتى الآن بطريقة حرة ونزيهة وديمقراطية. وأكدت الأحزاب أنها تعمل على توسيع هياكلها على المستويات الإقليمية والمناطقية ومستوى المقاطعات (وريد) للقيام بدورها بفعالية.

وتقوم حكومة الإقليم والحزب الحاكم بتوفير الميزانية اللازمة والمكاتب والخدمات اللوجستية وغيرها من أشكال الدعم لضمان نجاح المجلس وتوسيع الفضاء الديمقراطي. وذكرت الأحزاب أنها تعمل على تسجيل المرشحين دون تأثير خارجي وتنظيم الأعضاء في ظل ظروف متكافئة وملائمة.

وقال نائب رئيس المجلس وممثل حزب الازدهار، أتو موجيس إيدي، إن الأحزاب الأعضاء تعمل من خلال المنافسة والتعاون لإتمام العملية بسلام.
