Örebro District Court rejects fixed-term sentence for Anders Gustavson

Örebro District Court today rejected Anders Gustavson's application to convert his life sentence into a fixed-term sentence.

Convicted murderer Anders Eklund, now known as Gustavson, had applied to have his life sentence converted. The district court announced the decision on 8 June 2026. In its ruling the court stated that there remains a very concrete and significant risk that Gustavson would reoffend in serious crime. This constitutes an absolute barrier to setting a fixed term. Gustavson is 60 years old and has been deprived of liberty since 7 April 2008. He was sentenced in 2008 to life imprisonment for the murders of Pernilla Hellgren and Engla Höglund.

Swedish users express relief that the Örebro court rejected converting Anders Eklund's life sentence to fixed-term, with calls for permanent imprisonment for the double murderer; some question prior release decisions and the justice system.
