PNP reports no credible threat against Marcos administration

The Philippine National Police reported yesterday there is no credible or imminent destabilization attempt through a military-backed people power movement against President Marcos. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said they found no basis for public alarm over supposed ouster plots.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) stated there is no credible threat against the Marcos administration.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the agency remains on high alert but has no validated intelligence of an imminent military-backed movement. "The PNP maintains a high level of alertness but as of now, we have no validated intelligence indicating a credible, imminent threat of a military-backed movement," he said in a statement.

The PNP is treating the alleged threats as rumors due to a lack of concrete evidence. Nartatez made the remarks following Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson's claim that some retired military officers are trying to recruit uniformed service members.

Nartatez assured the public that the PNP will avoid political speculation and focus on protecting communities from crime. "Our loyalty is to the Constitution and the Filipino people, not to any political faction. Our job is to ensure order on the streets and in the communities. We remain professional and focused on our anti-crime mandate," he added.

Coordination between the military and police remains steady. "Both organizations are committed to the chain of command and the stability of the administration," Nartatez said.
