A 74-year-old retired farmer has been sentenced to six months' suspended prison for crushing an egg on Jordan Bardella's head during a book signing in Moissac at the end of November 2025. On January 9, 2026, the Montauban correctional court in Tarn-et-Garonne delivered its verdict in the case of a septuagenarian who disrupted a book signing by Jordan Bardella, president of the National Rally (RN). The incident occurred on November 29, 2025, in Moissac, where the 74-year-old retiree, dressed in jeans, sneakers, and a navy blue jacket, joined the queue before crushing an egg on the political leader's head while presenting a book.
Charged with "violence against a public authority figure without incapacity," the defendant expressed regrets during the hearing: "I regret my action and apologize to Mr. Bardella. It was his party I targeted. It was violent, I acknowledge." He nevertheless justified his act as a political gesture aimed at "alerting citizens that they are falling asleep and that once they [RN representatives] are in power, it will be too late." For him, it was the "minimum violence to warn of maximum violence for all French people."
Prosecutor Bruno Sauvage had requested eight months in prison, four of them firm, emphasizing that it was not a "silly mistake" but a "violent act" and not a "civic" or "symbolic" one. The defendant had previously been convicted for a similar incident in July 2022, when he threw an egg at Eric Zemmour during a campaign event in Moissac.
Jordan Bardella's lawyer, Charles de Luynes, described the facts as "serious," stating: "When you target a political figure, you undermine political debate." He had sought 1,500 euros in damages, but the court awarded 500 euros for harm to image, plus a 1,000-euro fine and 600 euros in legal costs.
