Sarana claims Titled Tuesday victory over Carlsen

GM Alexey Sarana won the June 16 Titled Tuesday tournament with a score of 10.5 out of 11. Magnus Carlsen, returning to the event, finished second on 9.5 points.

Sarana secured the title with only one draw, against Carlsen in round eight. The Russian grandmaster also defeated Parham Maghsoodloo in the final round to seal first place.

Carlsen started strongly, reaching 6 out of 6 before the key matchup with Sarana. He later drew with Haik Martirosyan in round 11 to confirm sole second place.

Several players reached 9 points, including SL Narayanan who took third on tiebreaks. The event is Chess.com's weekly online tournament for titled players.
