South Korea reports two more bird flu cases, total now 24

South Korea has confirmed two additional cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza at poultry farms, raising the total for this season to 24. The latest outbreak was detected at a chicken farm in Yeongam county, 380 kilometers south of Seoul, prompting authorities to cull animals and impose movement restrictions.

According to the Central Disaster Management Headquarters, a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) was reported late Friday at a chicken farm in Asan city, about 85 kilometers south of Seoul, where around 21,000 chickens are raised. This marked the 23rd case of the season.

Later that day, another outbreak was confirmed at a chicken farm in Yeongam county, 380 kilometers south of Seoul, which houses approximately 33,000 chickens, bringing the total to 24.

Authorities have restricted access to the affected farms, initiated culling of the animals, and launched an investigation into the outbreaks. A temporary standstill order has also been issued for relevant facilities and farming vehicles in the impacted areas. These measures follow standard protocols to contain the spread of the virus.

The outbreaks are impacting the poultry sector, raising concerns over egg supply disruptions and price surges. The Central Disaster Management Headquarters continues to stress ongoing surveillance and preventive actions.
