Sungjae Im switches to Titleist T150 irons after wrist injury

Sungjae Im has returned to the PGA Tour following a wrist injury, debuting a new set of Titleist T150 irons at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. This marks his first iron change since adopting the first-generation T100 irons in 2019. The switch occurred during his rehabilitation in Korea, where he evaluated his equipment.

Sungjae Im, who has played in at least 26 events each of his first seven PGA Tour seasons, took advantage of mandatory time off due to a wrist injury sustained last October to reassess his gear. He made his comeback at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week, using the new Titleist T150 irons for the first time since his rookie year equipment adjustment.

Titleist Tour Rep Nick Geyer explained that Im had long favored the original T100 irons for their size, profile, longer heel-to-toe length, and wider sole, which provided more bounce. "Sungjae really loved that first-gen T100," Geyer told GOLF. "It was probably a combination of things... he just hit them great and probably didn’t see a reason to change."

During rehab in Korea, Im consulted Titleist's local team and tested options once able to make full swings. The T150 emerged as the choice—a larger tour cavity-back iron bent one degree weak, with proportions updated to resemble the T100 more closely, including a lengthened blade and wider sole for familiarity. Geyer noted, "The blade length and a little bit more overall size just looked very familiar to him right away. That familiarity was the first positive, and then the performance gains kind of stacked on top of that. The numbers were really good—a little higher, a little faster, and with a steeper descent angle."

The T150s maintain the same stock lofts as Im's previous set but offer improved launch and turf interaction, particularly in long irons. Im retained his Dynamic Gold X100 shafts and added Titleist-branded lead tape to each head on his own initiative. "That’s just Sungjae being Sungjae," Geyer said.

In his return, Im missed the cut at Bay Hill but gained strokes on approach in his second round and in his first two rounds at the Players Championship this week. The T150, considered a players' distance iron, is used in full sets by few pros, including Will Zalatoris.
