Taylor Fritz amused commentators by collecting water bottles after defeating Alexander Bublik at Wimbledon on July 7. The American advanced to the quarterfinals with a straight-sets win.
Fritz defeated Bublik 7-6(1), 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 41 minutes. He recorded 23 aces and won 89 percent of first-serve points during the match.
After the victory, Fritz gathered multiple water bottles from the court. Commentators joked about the action, with one saying he would report Fritz and comparing the haul to Santa Claus.
In his on-court interview, Fritz explained the choice. “I stole enough towels in the first three rounds, so I’m good now,” he said, noting he was also collecting items for teammates.
The win marked Fritz’s fourth Wimbledon quarterfinal appearance in five years. He will next face the winner of Alexander Zverev and Jiri Lehecka.
