Teacher and ex-student raided in Padang mosque toilet

Residents of Bungus Teluk Kabung subdistrict in Padang, West Sumatra, were shocked by the raid on two men suspected of indecent acts in the toilet of Syarif Cindakia Mosque on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. The raid was conducted by police and locals following reports of suspicious activity. One suspect is a 51-year-old civil servant teacher, the other his 18-year-old former student.

The raid took place in the toilet of Syarif Cindakia Mosque, Bungus Teluk Kabung subdistrict, Padang city, West Sumatra. Two officers from Bungus Police Sector along with local residents acted after receiving reports of suspicious activity in the mosque toilet area. They broke down the toilet door and secured both men inside.

"What are you doing, get out! Both of you get out," said the raiding police officer, quoted on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

One suspect, initialed S, is a 51-year-old civil servant teacher at a state high school in the Bungus Teluk Kabung area. He was still wearing his official uniform when secured. The other suspect, initialed L, is an 18-year-old man who was not wearing clothes. L is known to be S's former student from high school.

After being secured at the scene, both were taken to Bungus Police Sector for initial questioning. They were then handed over to the Padang City Civil Service Police Unit headquarters for further handling in accordance with applicable regulations. The Civil Service Police Unit then brought the families of both suspects together for mediation.

To date, authorities are still investigating the case to determine further steps based on local laws and norms. This incident highlights sensitive issues regarding alleged same-sex relations in educational and community settings in Padang.
