The Strokes have released their new single 'Going Shopping' to streaming services and announced their seventh album, 'Reality Awaits', for June 26. The Rick Rubin-produced LP marks the band's first full-length release since 2020's 'The New Abnormal'. The announcement follows teasers and a live debut in San Francisco.
The Strokes dropped 'Going Shopping', a guitar-synth track featuring Julian Casablancas singing 'goin’ out my mind, throwin’ all my plans out the window', after mailing cassettes to fans and debuting it live in San Francisco. The single arrived on streaming platforms following last week's teases of new material with retro graphics and promises to 'be in touch' about 'Reality Awaits' coming this summer. The album, available for pre-order via Cult Records and RCA Records, was recorded in Costa Rica with producer Rick Rubin and finished around the globe. Artwork, art directed by Johann Rashid, draws from Richard Prince's 1989 work Untitled (Cowboy). Tracklist includes 'Psycho Shit', 'Dine N’Dash', 'Lonely in the Future', 'Falling out of Love', 'Going to Babble On', 'Going Shopping', 'Liar’s Remorse', 'The Fruits of Conquest', and 'Pros and Cons' as confirmed by Pitchfork. The release precedes the band's Coachella set this weekend, plus headline slots at Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Japan's Summer Sonic, and more festivals, with additional tour dates expected. Casablancas previously discussed balancing The Voidz with The Strokes, calling it a 'cool day job' and citing financial motivations as past hurdles to creativity, quoting Miles Davis: 'The real risk is not changing.'
