Tourism minister says Gabeta projects boost national economy

At the House of Peoples' Representatives' 17th regular session, Tourism Minister Selamawit Kasahun stated that tourism sites built under Gabeta for country, nation, and generation initiatives significantly contribute to the economy. The government is systematically developing tourism sites across regions.

Addis Ababa, Miyazya 20, 2018 (Fana) – Tourism Minister Selamawit Kasahun told the House of Peoples' Representatives' 17th regular session that tourism sites established under Gabeta for country, nation, and generation efforts are providing greater economic benefits.

The minister said the government views tourism as a key economic pillar and is undertaking development activities. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) has inaugurated numerous tourism areas and sites through these Gabeta projects.

The private sector is developing regional tourism sites. Community capacity building and upgrading initiatives are in progress. Some 800 tourist hotels have been registered so far.

A pilot project in Sidama region successfully prepared a sample for the national tourism charter, which will be the next priority area.
