Troja-Ljungby sport chief leaves as Gustafsson returns

Tobias Johansson has stepped down as sport director for Troja-Ljungby, while former head coach Jens Gustafsson returns in a combined club and sport director role. The changes come amid organizational restructuring following the resignation of club director Christoffer Moberg. The moves aim to strengthen the club's leadership for the upcoming season.

Troja-Ljungby, a team in Sweden's HockeyAllsvenskan league, announced significant organizational shifts on Wednesday. Sport director Tobias Johansson, who had been working 30 percent time while scouting for the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning, has left the club entirely. This follows discussions about expanding the sport director role, prompted by the recent resignation of club director Christoffer Moberg.

Jens Gustafsson, who was dismissed as head coach in December, is returning in a new capacity. He will combine duties as club director and sport director, focusing on building the team for next season. The club stated on its website: "We have seen a need for an increased sport director role and, in connection with Moberg's departure, we saw new opportunities to put together the organizational puzzle. This also means that Tobias Johansson, who has been sport director at 30 percent during the fall, leaves his assignment."

Chairman Stefan Hörberg emphasized the benefits: "With Jens, we retain continuity in the operations and gain increased competence in the sport, which is our core activity." The team has shown improvement since the coaching change, climbing to safety in the standings under interim coach Magnus Sundquist, who took over a few weeks ago.

The club noted that other staff can assist with administrative tasks, allowing Gustafsson to prioritize hockey operations. "Troja continues the work to strengthen the organization and grow into the HockeyAllsvenskan framework," the statement added. These adjustments reflect ongoing efforts to stabilize and develop the team amid a challenging season.
