Twin families get varying preschool hours depending on municipality

Families with twins face major differences in how much time older siblings receive in preschool. In Varberg only the legal minimum is given while several other municipalities automatically offer extra time.

Tone Bö Blomkvist in Varberg learned she was expecting twins just days before the birth. Her three-year-old daughter Vilja has since been entitled to 15 hours of preschool per week under the municipality's rules.

After an application Vilja was granted 20 hours per week until summer break. The family wishes for more time to ease daily life with the newborn boys Vilhelm and Theodor.

A survey shows that 16 municipalities automatically provide extended time for twin births. For example Malmö offers 30 hours for six months while Karlskrona and Sollentuna maintain regular hours for four months.
