The STF's First Chamber unanimously sentenced former congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro to 4 years and 2 months in semi-open prison for coercion during proceedings. The ruling was issued on Tuesday (16).
The Supreme Federal Court's First Chamber unanimously convicted Eduardo Bolsonaro of coercion during proceedings. Ministers determined he acted in the United States to secure sanctions against Brazilian authorities and interfere in the trial of his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro.
The sentence includes 50 days of fines, loss of his position as a Federal Police scrivener and ineligibility for eight years. Reporting minister Alexandre de Moraes set the penalty above the minimum due to aggravating factors.
Eduardo Bolsonaro stated the process is null due to lack of regular citation and called it a “stacked deck”. He said he will not appeal the decision. André do Prado, president of the São Paulo state assembly, said the PL party will appeal and kept the pre-launch candidacy event scheduled for Saturday (20) in Guarulhos, with virtual participation by Eduardo.
