Al-Sisi and Russian aide discuss Suez Canal zone and El Dabaa plant

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi hosted Nikolai Patrushev, aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin and chairperson of Russia's Maritime Board, in Cairo on Monday. The meeting addressed implementing agreements from al-Sisi's May 2025 visit to Russia and recent phone calls, the latest on March 31, 2026, according to Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy.

Al-Sisi praised the growing momentum in bilateral relations and trade, highlighting the El Dabaa nuclear project and the planned Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone as signs of the unique ties between the countries.

Patrushev conveyed Putin's greetings and affirmed Moscow's commitment to activating the strategic partnership across fields, especially maritime navigation. The sides reviewed ongoing and potential projects, alongside talks between the Russian delegation and Egyptian authorities.

Senior Egyptian officials attended, including Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, and Presidential Adviser for National Security Fayza Abou el-Naga. The Russian side featured Yury Matveyev, acting chargé d'affaires; Sergei Vakhrukov; Yevgeny Anoshin; and Konstantin Manasenko.
