A man aged about 25 to 35 was recovered dead on Saturday July 4 in Paris Canal Saint-Martin. The discovery comes eight days after a previous drowning at the same spot.
The body was recovered around 7 a.m. at Quai de Valmy by firefighters and the river brigade. The victim, badly swollen, had no identity papers.
Paris prosecutors said an investigation was opened to establish the circumstances. Swimming in part of the canal had been authorised mid-June by the city hall due to the heatwave.
Eight days earlier on June 26, a man had already died by drowning at the same location while swimming outside the authorised area.
