Cal Raleigh hit a grand slam on Monday night to lead the Seattle Mariners to an 8-0 victory against the Cincinnati Reds at T-Mobile Park. The homer came immediately after an intentional walk to Dominic Canzone.
Raleigh connected on the first pitch from lefty reliever Caleb Ferguson, sending the ball 408 feet into the second deck. The blast erased a 1-0 deficit and capped a three-run inning that put the game out of reach.
Raleigh entered the at-bat hitless in his previous 15 plate appearances and had not homered since July 4. He is batting .163 with a .573 OPS this season after a 60-homer campaign in 2025.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson called the situation unusual. Reds manager Terry Francona said he would make the same decision again to try to induce a double play.
Raleigh said he was surprised by the move but focused on helping the team. The win moved Seattle back into first place after winning four of its last five games.
