Couple from Lot charged after seizure of assault rifles and drugs

A couple living in Souillac has been charged with arms and drug trafficking and placed in provisional detention.

Investigators seized on Friday at their home and on an isolated plot in Martel five assault rifles including AK47 and M16 models, four carbines, nine handguns, more than 1 000 cartridges and tear gas grenades.

They also found 11 kg of narcotics including cocaine, heroin, ketamine, ecstasy, MDMA and amphetamine plus 26 000 euros in cash.

The inquiry opened on 19 May by gendarmes from Toulouse and Gourdon led to their arrest on Tuesday in a camper van on their return from the Netherlands while heading to the plot.

Brought before the criminal division of the judicial court in Agen, they were charged with participation in a criminal association, arms and drug trafficking, money laundering and handling stolen goods.
