Cuba in favorable position against arboviruses

Cuba has a favorable epidemiological situation in its fight against arboviruses, following a 21 percent decrease in reported febrile cases last week. This improvement highlights effective efforts to control vector-borne diseases such as dengue and zika. Health authorities emphasize the need for ongoing vigilance.

Havana, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) - Cuba reports a positive epidemiological situation in combating arboviruses, driven by a 21 percent reduction in notified febrile cases during the previous week. This downward trend indicates progress in prevention and control measures implemented by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).

Arboviruses, including pathogens transmitted by mosquitoes like Aedes aegypti, pose an ongoing challenge in tropical regions. In Cuba, targeted efforts to eliminate breeding sites and fumigation campaigns have contributed to this improvement. While initial reports do not specify absolute figures, the percentage decrease suggests stabilization in the incidence of diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, and zika.

Health experts stress that, despite the progress, the population must continue preventive practices, such as using repellents and eliminating standing water. This update comes amid intensified surveillance ahead of the rainy season, which favors vector proliferation.
