Cuba resumes cytostatic drug production at AICA plant

The AICA Laboratories plant has restarted operations to manufacture cancer drugs. The move aims to supply the national oncology care program despite economic constraints.

The reactivation of the AICA Laboratories cytostatic drug plant followed an investment process to expand capacity. The restart is proceeding in a phased and controlled manner to ensure medication quality. Mayda Mauri Pérez, president of BioCubaFarma, and Minister of Public Health José Angel Portal Miranda visited the facility. They highlighted the collaboration between the biopharmaceutical industry and the health system. The plant will supply 16 cytostatic drugs to the National Program for the Care of Cancer Patients. Production will prioritize medications of greatest clinical criticality according to schedules agreed with the Ministry of Public Health. Portal Miranda noted that the reopening will help ensure availability of oncology treatments despite current economic restrictions.
