Gambella region selects 109 tourism sites

The Gambella region's Culture and Tourism Bureau has ordered 109 tourist sites to be included in Google Carta. This effort aims to improve and promote the sites, according to the bureau. It seeks to better utilize the region's tourism potentials.

On March 2, 2018, in Addis Ababa, the Gambella region's Culture and Tourism Bureau ordered the inclusion of 109 tourist sites in Google Carta as part of efforts to improve and promote them.

The bureau stated that it is actively working on this initiative and that stakeholder participation will help utilize tourism potentials more effectively. Although the region has extensive natural and man-made sites, such as Gambella National Park, they have not been fully utilized, the bureau noted. It is collaborating with the Tourism Ministry and other partners to address these challenges.

Special attention is being given to developing sites that have not yet been nationally promoted. As a result, the 109 sites across the region will be added to Google Carta in phases. For the current budget year, plans are in place to develop the Burey, Tata, and Ngmulu peaks, as well as the Alwero Dam. In collaboration with the Tourism Ministry, construction projects for the development, marketing, and tourist information center of Jina and Baro Darjan are underway.
