Kang’ata defends decision to join Linda Mwananchi movement

Murang’a Governor Dr Irungu Kang’ata defended his decision to attend a Linda Mwananchi public meeting in Thika. The move has sparked political debate in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 elections.

In an Inooro TV interview, Kang’ata said his attendance formed part of his political strategy to represent Mt Kenya interests. He stressed that the region should not be left out of representation within the movement.

He denied claims that he is positioning himself as the leader of Mt Kenya politics, preparing to run for president or deputy president, or forming a new party. He noted that he understands DCP remains the most popular party in Murang’a and Rigathi Gachagua leads politics in the region.

Political analyst Stanley Wang’ombe criticised Kang’ata for attempting to unilaterally shape Mt Kenya’s political direction. Lands Minister Alice Wahome also criticised the governor during her visits to Murang’a.
