Ramos de Azevedo building in downtown SP to be restored

Businessman Allan Ruiz has acquired a building designed by architect Francisco de Paula Ramos de Azevedo at Rua Roberto Simonsen, 97, near Pateo do Collegio in downtown São Paulo, and plans to restore it into a cultural space. The structure, listed by Conpresp in 2015, was built in 1916 to house medical societies. Over 500 people joined a guided tour there last Saturday.

The building at Rua Roberto Simonsen, 97, had been abandoned for decades but will now undergo immediate restoration. Designed in 1916 for the Sociedade de Medicina e Cirurgia de São Paulo and Policlínica, which occupied it until 1939, the property changed hands several times and saw partial facade restoration.

Allan Ruiz, the new owner, aims to turn it into a cultural space. The Municipal Council for the Preservation of Historical, Cultural, and Environmental Heritage of São Paulo (Conpresp) listed the building in 2015, ensuring its protection.

Francisco de Paula Ramos de Azevedo (1851-1928) shaped downtown São Paulo's landscape with over 30 major projects from 1886 to 1928, including Theatro Municipal, Mercadão, and Palácio da Justiça. His eclectic works, influenced by French and classical styles, endured urban changes due to sturdy construction.

Last Saturday (25), the @area.central.sp channel organized a guided tour of the building, drawing over 500 visitors who were impressed by the structure.
