Registry rejects Daniel Quintero's bid in Life Front consultation

The National Civil Registry rejected Daniel Quintero's presidential bid in the Life Front consultation, backed by the AICO Party. The decision stems from Quintero's prior participation and loss in the Historic Pact consultation last October. The agency referred other inscriptions to the National Electoral Council for review.

The National Civil Registry issued a statement following the registration of the left-wing consultation known as the Life Front, rejecting Daniel Quintero's candidacy. The aspirant sought to participate backed by the AICO Party, but the agency ruled that his inscription violates administrative precedents. Specifically, Quintero already competed and was defeated in the Historic Pact consultation last October, barring a new bid through another political group under the Constitution and law.

Quintero responded to the decision by stating: “The CNE has already informed that it is competent to decide on our candidacy. The registry cannot and should not block democracy, and the right of citizens to choose and be chosen. Expect news in the coming hours”.

In its official statement, the Registry clarified: “Accepting the inscription of a precandidacy under these conditions is contrary to the legal framework”. Additionally, the electoral organization forwarded to the National Electoral Council (CNE) the documentation for the inscriptions of Iván Cepeda, Roy Barreras, and Camilo Romero, so that authority can assess if they meet legal requirements. The final resolution on these candidacies will rest with the CNE, keeping the Life Front consultation process under review as implications are addressed.
