Typhoon Maysak triggered severe flooding in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region over the weekend, leaving at least four people dead and eight missing. Tens of thousands of residents have been evacuated as rescue operations continue.
Officials in Hengzhou city said on Tuesday that torrential rains had left four people dead and eight missing. More than 53,000 residents have been evacuated from flood-hit areas.
In Binyang County, all 172 elderly residents at a flooded nursing home were rescued on Tuesday. Local authorities reported no casualties.
The Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Emergency Management allocated 160 million yuan on Sunday for disaster relief across six provincial regions including Guangxi. The Ministry of Water Resources raised its flood emergency response in the Pearl River Basin to Level II.
Super Typhoon Bavi is forecast to approach China's eastern coast later this week.
