Heavy monsoon rains across South Korea have left one person missing and damaged more than 450 facilities, authorities said Friday.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters reported that a man in his 70s was swept away Thursday in a stream in Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. A search was still under way as of 5 a.m. Friday.
Nationwide, 758 people had evacuated, mainly in the central provinces of South and North Chungcheong. The city of Cheonan received 267.1 millimeters of rain from Wednesday through 5 a.m. Friday.
Five landslides occurred in North Chungcheong and Gangwon provinces, though no casualties were reported. Authorities expected the heavy rainfall to subside by Friday morning.
