Actor Armin Mueller-Stahl was awarded the Golden Ochse honorary prize by the Filmkunstfest Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on Saturday evening. Minister President Manuela Schwesig presented the 95-year-old with the award.
Schwesig praised Mueller-Stahl's career path from the beaches of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to Hollywood. She noted that a 1956 film had already been shot on the beach of Ahrenshoop. In the GDR he appeared in DEFA films and signed a petition against the expulsion of Wolf Biermann.
Mueller-Stahl moved to the West in 1980 and established himself in Hollywood. He earned an Oscar nomination for the film Shine. Despite international success he continued to appear in German productions such as Die Manns - Ein Jahrhundertroman.
Two exhibitions in Schwerin display his paintings until the end of May. The trained concert violinist has also performed as a musician.
