Autopista del Sol freed after hours of negotiations with protesters

After more than six hours of blockade, state authorities and commissioners from Juan R. Escudero agreed to free the Autopista del Sol and the Federal Highway Mexico-Acapulco. Communities demanded the withdrawal of community police from unrecognized organizations. The state government pledged to establish a permanent dialogue table.

The blockade on the Autopista del Sol and the Federal Highway Mexico-Acapulco, started by commissioners from at least 40 communities in Juan R. Escudero, lasted more than six hours. Protesters, including residents, merchants, and transporters from Tierra Colorada, demanded the withdrawal of community police from the Indigenous and Popular Council of the State of Guerrero (CIPOG), the Union of Peoples and Organizations of the State of Guerrero (UPOEG), and CRAC-PF, who arrived in the area last week under the pretext of security, despite operating outside their areas of influence.

With the intervention of the Undersecretary of Political and Social Development, Francisco Rodríguez Cisneros, four meetings were held with community leaders. It was agreed to establish a permanent working table with the federal Secretariat of Government and to seek a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and her cabinet. The agreements exclude the three organizations from future dialogues, as they are not legally recognized for public security functions outside their zones.

Rodríguez Cisneros emphasized: “We dialogued with them and an agreement was reached that allowed the freeing of the federal communication routes. The state government is characterized by resolving through dialogue. From the first minute, we offered to talk, agree, and build solutions, and today that effort yielded results”.

Participants included commissioners' coordinator Daniel Rosas Martínez, state National Guard coordinator Óscar García Ponce de León, Colonel Luis Lorenzo Grande Aguirre, Public Security Secretary Daniel Ledesma Osuna, federal delegate Juan Carlos Barrios Curti, and Transport Director Arturo Salinas Sandoval. The working table will continue this Tuesday in a restaurant in Tierra Colorada with federal, military, and state authorities.

The blockade stranded hundreds of motorists at the La Venta toll booth, exiting Acapulco, with lines up to 4 kilometers long and delays of 4 to 6.5 hours. Circulation was also cut from Palo Blanco to avoid confrontations.

Corn producers in Michoacán, Guanajuato, and Jalisco announced the release of one lane in their road blockades as a gesture of good faith to speed up negotiations with the federal government. This follows dialogue commitments with senators, though they reject the offered price of 6,050 pesos per ton and demand 7,200 pesos. The blockades, started on October 27, have left hundreds stranded for over 20 hours.
