CNE accredits over 25,000 actors for May 31 presidential elections

The National Electoral Council accredited 25,062 people to monitor the May 31 presidential elections. The figure includes witnesses, auditors and observers abroad and in the country.

The director of Electoral Surveillance and Inspection, José Antonio Parra Fandiño, highlighted that this is a record figure. “We have a record figure. 9,624 electoral witnesses have been nominated and accredited who will exercise control at the voting tables outside Colombian territory,” he noted.

Of those accredited, 9,624 are electoral witnesses abroad, 1,167 systems auditors and 14,271 electoral observers, of which 13,740 are national and 531 international. The CNE indicated that the number of international observers could rise to almost one thousand.

The deadline to nominate electoral witnesses in Colombia expires on May 24 at 11:59 p.m. The CNE called on the 12 political organizations to continue with the nominations to reach the goal of 1.7 million witnesses at more than 120,000 voting tables.
