Sky Sports commentator David Croft said the 2026 Formula 1 power units denied fans the racing they deserved at circuits including Spa-Francorchamps and Silverstone.
Croft made the comments during an appearance on the Sky Sports F1 Show following the Belgian Grand Prix. He praised the season's aerodynamic changes but expressed concerns about the new power unit regulations.
"The power units, I'm not so sure," Croft said. He noted that championships are won and lost over a variety of circuits and that the current package does not suit every track.
The Belgian Grand Prix saw Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli win ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Red Bull's Max Verstappen. Croft highlighted how the energy demands at Spa and Silverstone affected the racing.
Croft added that he hopes tweaks planned for 2027, which will adjust the energy balance to a 60:40 split between internal combustion and electric power, will improve the situation.
