Uppsala Municipality is closing Eriksbergsvägen between Granitvägen and Ekebyvägen from March 23 to May 8, evenings from 9pm to 1am, to let common frogs, moor frogs, smooth newts and common toads cross safely.
Each spring, frogs and amphibians migrate from hibernation sites in Eriksbergs forests and residential areas across Eriksbergsvägen to breeding ponds in Ekebydalen. To reduce roadkill, Uppsala Municipality has closed the road evenings during this period in recent years. Last year, 3,614 frogs were saved, with more succeeding annually. The closure affects the stretch between Granitvägen and Ekebyvägen. Drivers are advised to take the detour via Granitvägen, past Västertorg, Norbyvägen and Karlsrogatan. The measure aims to ensure as many animals as possible reach their destination unharmed.
