Wataalam waeleza faida za kuchutama wakati wa haja kubwa

Mijadala kwenye mitandao ya kijamii inazungumzia changamoto ya Wakenya wengi katika kuchutama ipasavyo wakati wa kutumia vyoo vya mashimo vijijini. Wataalamu wa magonjwa ya utumbo wanasema kuchutama kunasaidia kutoka kwa haja kubwa kwa urahisi na kuzuia matatizo. Uchunguzi wa kisayansi unaunga mkono maoni haya.

Kwenye mitandao ya kijamii, Wakenya wamejadili sana suala la kushindwa kuchutama vizuri, hasa wakati wa likizo ndefu ya Desemba ambapo wengi hurudi vijijini na kutumia vyoo vya mashimo. Baadhi yao hahirishia haja kubwa hadi warudi mijini, huku wengine wakichagua hotelini si kwa kula bali kutumia vyoo vya kisasa.

Dkt Amos Mwasamwaja, daktari wa magonjwa ya mfumo wa mmeng'enyo chakula katika Hospitali ya Chuo Kikuu cha Aga Khan, anaeleza kuwa kuchutama kunapunguza muda wa kukaa chooni na kurahisisha kusonga kwa haja kubwa. "Kunapunguza muda unaotumia chooni, na hurahisisha kutoka kwa haja kubwa. Kunasaidia haja kubwa kusonga, tofauti na kukaa," anasema. Anataja kuwa kukaa kwenye vyoo vya kisasa kunaongeza kujikaza, jambo linalopunguza kasi ya kutoka kwa haja na kusababisha hisia ya kutomaliza kikamilifu, ambayo inaweza kuongoza kwenye kufunga choo.

Aidha, kuchutama kunaruhusu haja kubwa kupita bila upinzani mkubwa, hivyo kupunguza kujikaza na muda chooni. Dkt Mwasamwaja anaonya kuwa kujikaza kupita kiasi kutokana na kukaa kunaweza kusababisha hatari kama kuvimba au utumbo kutoka nje kutokana na shinikizo kwenye mishipa ya damu. Kwa wale wasioweza kuchutama, anapendekeza kuinua miguu kwa kigoda kidogo ili kufungua njia ya choo.

Uchunguzi wa mwaka 2010 uliochapishwa katika jarida la Low Urinary Tract Symptoms ulionyesha kuwa kuchutama hunyoosha njia ya choo na utumbo, na hivyo kurahisisha haja kubwa. Utafiti mwingine wa 2003 katika jarida la Digestive Diseases and Sciences ulihusisha watu 28 wenye afya na kubaini kuwa kuchutama hupunguza muda wa kuhisi kumaliza haja na juhudi za kujikaza ikilinganishwa na kukaa.

Dkt Alemanji Ajua, daktari mwingine katika hospitali hiyo na rais wa Chama cha Madaktari wa Mfumo wa Chakula nchini Kenya, anaongeza kuwa kwenda haja hutegemea uwiano wa kimwili na uratibu wa misuli. Anasema choo cha kukalia husababisha kujikaza kupita kiasi, ambalo linaweza kusababisha michubuko midogo na kutokwa damu, pamoja na gesi na maumivu tumboni kutokana na kutomaliza haja kikamilifu.
