Fires in Garpenberg prompt resident meeting

Four houses have burned down in Garpenberg in recent weeks. Following earlier suspected arson cases, police do not rule out a connection between the fires and have increased their presence in the area. An information meeting with around 80 villagers was held on Wednesday evening.

All fires occurred at night in deserted houses or summer cottages. No one has been injured.

Police have reinforced their presence with staff from Borlänge and Falun. Magnus Sjödén, deputy local police area chief, says the area is geographically narrow and a connection is being investigated.

Around 70 to 80 residents gathered at the meeting where police and Hedemora municipality provided information. Shortly after the meeting, another fire alarm came in Garpenberg.
