Police have published surveillance footage of a person of interest in the investigation of four suspected arsons in Garpenberg. The film was recorded near one of the fires and police seek contact with the person as well as witnesses.
Police in Region Bergslagen published the footage on 10 June 2026. It shows a person of interest in the investigation of the fires in which five abandoned houses and summer cottages were destroyed. Police urge the public to contact them on 114 14 with information about the person or other observations in the area. All information can be valuable, even details that may seem less significant. At the same time police are increasing their presence in Garpenberg. A mobile unit is stationed in the centre this week to receive tips and a security company will begin patrols. Camera surveillance will be installed in central parts over the coming month. Hedemora Municipality crime prevention coordinator Märta Brandts says the patrols will be planned in consultation with police. A public meeting with residents is scheduled for the end of June.
