Gauteng SAPS officer faces disciplinary action over alleged bribery

Gauteng police have started disciplinary proceedings against an officer seen in a social media video allegedly returning a cash bribe while in uniform. The provincial management has identified the officer and launched an investigation into the incident.

An immediate disciplinary process has been instituted against the officer. Gauteng police management says a departmental investigation has also been launched to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Gauteng South African Police Service states that the acceptance, solicitation or facilitation of a bribe constitutes a criminal offence and a serious violation of the SAPS Code of Conduct. “The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni, has strongly condemned the alleged conduct,” said Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi. “The SAPS will not tolerate corruption in any form.”
