IEBC na wabunge watetea kituo cha kujumlisha kura za urais

Wabunge na Tume Huru ya Uchaguzi na Mipaka (IEBC) wamepinga juhudi za kufuta kituo cha kitaifa cha kujumlishia kura za urais kabla ya uchaguzi wa 2027. Kesi iliyowasilishwa na Seneta Okiya Omtatah inapinga kanuni zinazohusisha ujumlishaji wa matokeo. IEBC inasema kituo hicho huongeza uwazi.

Seneta wa Busia Okiya Omtatah pamoja na viongozi wa upinzani wamewasilisha kesi inayopinga Kifungu cha 39 cha Sheria ya Uchaguzi na kanuni zinazohusiana na kituo cha kitaifa cha kujumlishia kura za urais. Walalamishi wanasema matokeo ya maeneo ya bunge yanapaswa kuwa ya mwisho bila kurejeshwa kwa uhakiki katika kituo cha IEBC.

Omtatah anasisitiza kuwa Katiba inaweka vituo vya kupigia kura na maeneo ya bunge kama ngazi za mwisho za kuhesabu na kutangaza matokeo. Anasema mwenyekiti wa IEBC ana jukumu la kukusanya na kutangaza mshindi bila kubadilisha matokeo.

Mwenyekiti wa IEBC Erastus Ethekon amekataa madai hayo, akisema kituo hicho kinafanya kazi kwa mujibu wa Katiba na maamuzi ya mahakama. "Hatua hii huongeza uwazi na uwajibikaji kwa kuwa umma unaweza kuona fomu kupitia mtandao," alisema Ethekon katika kiapo chake.

Bunge la Kitaifa kupitia Karani Samuel Njoroge na Seneti kupitia Karani Jeremiah Nyegenye wameunga mkono mfumo wa sasa. Wanasisitiza kuwa masuala yanashughulikiwa kupitia Mswada wa Marekebisho ya Sheria ya Uchaguzi wa 2024, na kuingilia kwa mahakama kunaweza kuvuruga mchakato wa kutunga sheria.
