KRA extends Ksh2.5 million import threshold until August 20

The Kenya Revenue Authority has extended the Ksh2.5 million benchmark value for consolidated cargo until August 20. A new Ksh3.2 million figure will apply from August 21.

The Kenya Revenue Authority announced the extension through a notice issued on July 28. It follows an engagement with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry on July 20.

The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry stated that the Ksh2.5 million benchmark for consolidated cargo will continue until August 20, 2026. From August 21 a new benchmark of Ksh3.2 million will replace it.

The authority has committed to maintaining the new rate for two years once active. Consolidators may request verification if they believe their cargo qualifies for a lower tax bracket.

The move comes after weeks of discussions between the authority and industry players over an earlier directive on minimum benchmark values.
